Cowell College EAP Scholarship Program

Eligibility Requirements
The following criteria are mandatory:

1. Applicant must be currently enrolled at UCSC.
2. Applicant must be a Cowell College student.
3. Applicant must be planning to participate in a UC Education Abroad Program (EAP).
4. Applicant must have at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA at the time of application for this scholarship.
5. Applicant must have demonstrated financial need.
6. Applicant must have a passion for studying abroad and a willingness to embrace and learn from the host
   country’s customs, language, and culture.

Note: Scholarship recipients must be willing to write a two-page report within one month of the end of their
EAP program and submit the report to the Cowell College Office. 
In addition, the following criteria are highly preferred:

1. Applicant must have at least two years of course work in the language of the host country, or equivalent,
   by the time of departure for EAP.
2. Applicant must have taken course work in subjects related to the host region, such as literature, culture,
   politics, etc.
3. Applicant must have an academic major that corresponds to the academic strength of the host
   institution; the host institution selected by the applicant should enhance the student’s academic
   development.

To apply for the Cowell College EAP Scholarship Program it is imperative that all of the following materials be
submitted to the Cowell College Academic Program Coordinator in Cowell 116 by the application deadline of
Friday, March 29, 2019 for Summer & Fall 2019 departing programs OR by the application deadline of Friday,
May 24,2019 for Spring 2020 departing programs. Please contact the Cowell College Office if you have
questions or concerns regarding any part of the application.

Your application packet should contain the following items, organized as listed below:

1. Cowell College EAP Scholarship Application Form
2. Personal Essay (see application form for details)
3. Statement of Financial Need (see application form for details)
4. Copy of your most recent unofficial transcript (print from my.ucsc.edu Student Center)
5. Copy of your financial aid award notification for 2018-19 (print from my.ucsc.edu). If you did not
   receive financial aid for 2018-19, please provide a statement indicating that you intend to apply for
   financial aid for 2019-20 and explaining any change in circumstances that require you to apply for
   financial aid, OR provide a statement describing the circumstances that place you in financial need.

Selection Process

1. Up to 3 Cowell College EAP Scholars will be named.
2. To be considered, completed applications must be delivered to the Cowell College Academic Program
   Coordinator in Cowell 116 no later than Friday, March 29, 2019 for Summer & Fall 2019 departing
   programs OR by the application deadline of Friday, May 24,2019 for Spring 2020 departing programs.
3. Cowell College will select the final Cowell College EAP Scholars.
4. Cowell College will announce the recipients of the Cowell College EAP Scholarships for Summer and Fall
   2019 departing programs by April 30, 2019, and for Spring 2020 departing programs by June 15, 2019.
