Love Songs by John Dizikes

1:30pm-2:30pm  Cowell Provost Lawn

Cowell Provost Emeriti and beloved Emeritus Professor of American Studies John Dizikes will give a talk about and sign copies of his new book, Love Songs: The Lives, Loves, and Poetry of Nine American Women, a group biography of Léonie Adams, Louise Bogan, Amy Lowell, Edna St. Vincent Millay, Marianne Moore, Dorothy Parker, Sara Teasdale, Genevieve Taggard, and Elinor Wylie.

"In the first third of the twentieth century," writes Dizikes, "the women's poetry movement emanated from New York City's Greenwich Village. Poetry was a form of liberation...I hope that if readers share my admiration for these women's art and imagination, they will join me equally in admiring their courage in expressing their independence from stultifying social conventions, courage which seems to me astonishing even a century later."
