Introduction

UCSC offers a wide variety of programs and opportunities outside of the classroom. At Cowell, the Programs Office staff plan events of interest to the college community. Students may visit the Programs Office to learn more about event planning, including funding and college publicity resources. Student vision and energy is essential -- propose something new or join an event planning group already underway.

The Programs Office team includes crews of student workers: Office Assistants, Program Assistants, Tech Crew members, Orientation Leaders, an Art Curator, and a Webmaster. Job openings can be found via the Career Center website and are announced in the Handout. You're invited to get involved!

College Nights: A Cowell Tradition

For forty years, College Nights have been a Cowell tradition. These special evenings include a program featuring music, dance, drama, comedy, Cowell Assembly meeting, student talent, multicultural enrichment, or games. College Nights are attended not only by students, but also by faculty and staff, sometimes with their families.

Programs for College Nights are planned by students, staff, and faculty. These gatherings of the Cowell community are not to be missed! Students with a meal plan: to attend simply show up, looking sharp, with your student ID. Be on time to get a seat.

Menus for College Nights are very imaginative, diverse and scrumptious! Students are very involved in the menu planning process. In the recent years food themes have included Italian, Persian, West African, Mexican, Japanese, Thai, Indian, Filipino, Italian, and more. Currently Cowell hosts about three College Nights a quarter.

Cowell students not on a meal plan may purchase a College Night ticket for only $1 (with ID) at the Cowell Student Life Office, under the Dining Hall. This price is subsidized by the Cowell Senate: the best dinner-and-show deal in town!

Dances & Special Events

Cowell College, as well as various student groups and organizations, sponsors many social, cultural, and educational events. Watch for details on concerts and dances, open mics, poetry slams, cultural celebrations, talent nights, film screenings, workshops and more. Student Art Exhibits
