Vietnam Memorial at Cowell

Next time you gaze at the Bay from the Cowell Courtyard, take note of the sculpture by renowned artist Jack Zajac. This arresting figure of a wounded goat honors two members of UCSC's Pioneer Class (class of 1969) who lost their lives in Vietnam while still college-age. George Skakel served reluctantly in the war and wrote impressive pieces for City on a Hill newspaper reporting on his experience. Jon Warmbrodt's name may be found on the Vietnam War Memorial in Washington DC. The College invites contributions of further information about Jon Warmbrodt as well as reminiscences about either of these students who died so young.
