Lecture on Torture and DemocracyDistinguished scholar Darius Rejali will speak on Thursday 13 November in Baskin Engineering 101 at 6:30 PM, on the historical and contemporary significance of torture. Darius Rejali teaches political science at Reed College. He has authored many books and articles, including Torture and Modernity: Self, Society, and State in Modern Iran (1994); Torture and Democracy (2007); "Studying a Practice: An Inquiry into Lapidation" (2001); and "Why Social Scientists Should Care How Jesus Died" (2008). His book, Approaches to Violence, is forthcoming from Princeton University Press. This event is open to the public.
