In the Main Gallery:
In the Annex Gallery:
GALLERY HOURS: TUESDAY - SUNDAY, 11 AM - 5PM TELEPHONE: (831) 459 - 2953 CONTACT: LINDA POPE, DIRECTOR Tim Craighead's paintings and works on paper operate in a realm somewhere between abstraction and the cognitive world. Beginning with an idea, derived from reflection, contemplation of the spiritual, or simply mental observations at the moment of creation, these paintings are the artist's honest communication of these thoughts visualized on canvas. Using the symbolic to help convey the internal, Craighead's work relies on a solid use of architectural and biomorphic elements, which give structure to the intimate and to the personal metaphor, that develops within the work. Catch this enigmatic work and meet the artist at the opening reception on Sunday, Jan.21, 2-4 p.m. The exhibit opens on January 16 and continues through March 17. An alumni of UCSC Craighead obtained M.F.A at Columbia University, New York. Since 2000 he has been exhibiting nationally and is represented in numerous collection throughout the U.S. Craighead is represented by the Gerald Peters Gallery, Santa Fe, NM, and also exhibits at Smith Anderson Editions in Palo Alto. Craighead has taught at Stanford, UCSC and Cabrillo College. Brian Rounds, also a UCSC alum, will be exhibiting charming local landscapes in the Annex Gallery. The reception for both artists is on Sunday, January 21, 2-4 p.m. For more information, please contact Eloise Pickard Smith Gallery at 459-2953. |
