Transfers
Welcome to Cowell advising, where we strive to provide excellent service to a large and diverse transfer student population!
No matter your background, your educational goals, or your major, the one commonality we see in our transfers is the desire and motivation to finish your degree and not waste a lot of time doing it.
To that end, a quick checklist to get you started on your journey to graduating from UCSC:
- Know how to qualify for your major.
- Have you taken the courses you need?
- Is there a GPA requirement that you need to meet?
- If you are thinking of changing your major, contact us ASAP!
- Become familiar with your graduation requirements.
- What have you satisfied already?
- IGETC: if you have it, you've finished your GE requirements.
- Your transfer work may not be fully evaluated until the fall.
- See a Cowell adviser if you have questions.
- Start networking immediately.
- Attend faculty office hours.
- Seek out events sponsored by your major and division.
- Learn about academic support resources.
- Don't wait until it's too late!
- Services for Transfer and Re-entry Students (STARS) is a good start.
As a junior with a major plan, you may not meet with your Cowell advisers (you will likely seek advising primarily from your major adviser). Remember that we are still your first resource if you need to:
- withdraw from a class or the university
- take a leave of absence
- appeal for an enrollment correction
- add more than 22 credits (or more than 19 if you do not have a 3.0 GPA)
- discuss your academic standing
- review your degree progress
We are here for you throughout your career, so please never hesitate to ask us for help!
