Determining Your Placement In The Cowell Core Course

For Fall 2009, incoming lower-division students enroll in a section of the Cowell Core Course (COWL 80A or COWL 80B, Imagining Justice Past and Present). Your Entry Level Writing Requirement (ELWR) status determines your placement in a COWL 80A or 80B section. The Cowell Core Course satisfies the College graduation requirement in addition to General Education requirements. Your Entry Level Writing Requirement (ELWR) status will help determine which section you should take. Please follow the step-by-step process below to help you determine what section you should enroll in.

STEP 1:

HAVE YOU SATISFIED THE ENTRY LEVEL WRITING REQUIREMENT (ELWR)?
This requirement is satisfied by any ONE of the following: (Note all that apply to you)

Analytical Writing Placement Exam (AWPE) – passing score of 8 or better
